AmeriCorps
Youth Advocates has received funding for
NetWorks AmeriCorps, a brand new AmeriCorps program with
branches in Houston and Los Angeles. Our partners in
NetWorks are the Episcopal Diocese of Texas and the
Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles.
NetWorks
is...
NetWorks AmeriCorps members will be
running after-school and summer programming for children
and youth at two site churches in Houston and two site
churches in Los Angeles. We will also be hosting a new YA
Night for older youth and young adults in each city.
The NetWorks
after-school and summer program will focus on academic
support, nutrition education, fitness, and arts enrichment.
NetWorks members will also recruit adult volunteers to
tutor children participating in the program, oversee
fitness activities, prepare meals, and provide arts
instruction and support.
Member benefits
include...
Full-time
members will receive a monthly living allowance of about
$850 per month. In addition, members receive free health
insurance coverage, and if eligible, free childcare. When
all 1,700 hours of service are completed, members will
receive a scholarship in the amount of $4,725 . Members
also receive quality leadership training, build strong
relationships and contacts in the professional field, and
gain professional experience that will last a life-time.
Requirements for
members are...
At least 18 years old
Have a high school diploma or are willing to get a GED
U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident Alien
Willing to make an 11-month commitment
